Abstrak
The background of this research is the low ability of students to understand the concept of multiplication and the lack of interest in learning. The models used by
teachers have not varied. Therefore, a learning model is needed to improve understanding of mathematical concepts in grade II elementary school students. The aim of this research is to improve mathematical concept abilities in grade II elementary school students using ‘Make a Match’ model. The method used in this research is 'Mix Method' with a sequential explanatory design. The research location was carried out at one of the elementary schools in West Bandung district. The research subjects were 30 students of the class. The instruments used are test instruments in the form of questions and non-test instruments in the form of
observation sheets, questionnaires and interviews. The results of the research can be seen based on scenarios and research implementation using the 'Make a Match' model on understanding mathematical concepts, that students understand the material more easily, learning is more fun and learning is more meaningful. The results of teacher observations were 96% and 96% of students were categorized as very good. Meanwhile, 77.50% of the teacher questionnaire results were in the good category and 81.00% of the students were in the very good category. Student obstacles include difficulty in communicating with friends due to lack of self
confidence and there are still students who make mistakes in solving word problems in the form of multiplication. Teacher obstacles the difficulty of conditioning students to be orderly in following the learning process when ‘Make a Match’ style game takes place and limited time management is also a challenge.
