Abstrak
In general, most teachers in elementary schools when teaching social studies still use the lecture method to deliver material. This method causes students' low
critical thinking skills because students only listen so they are less active and involved in the learning process, especially in social studies learning on the
material of how do I meet my needs. This research aims to analyze the results of using the problem based learning model to improve students' critical thinking
abilities. Researchers used a mix method with sequential explanatory design and a problem based learning model. The measuring instruments used in this research
include tests, student response questionnaires, and teacher interviews. In this research, the samples were 30 students of SDN Sukamaju 01 located on Jl. PD Dustira NO. 180 Kec. Cimahi Tengah, Cimahi city. The average completeness
score for the pretest was 4% and 96% incomplete, then in the posttest results the average completeness value was 70% complete and 30% incomplete. The conclusion from the results of this research is that the problem based learning
model is effective in encouraging students to be actively involved in learning so that it can improve students' critical thinking abilities.
