Abstract:	Associative meaning is a type of meaning analyzing the words, phrases and sentences in written or spoken language. It can bring other meaning depending on the context or situation used. The objectives of this research are to describe the types of associative meaning and its function. The research result show that there are 4 associative meanings. Each types of associative meaning has different function to deliver new sense of the word. This research indicates that the Jakarta Post uses various type of associative meaning as well as various functions to attract people to read it.
