| Abstract: | Nowadays, people strive to have a higher education to support and provide them with capability and skills to obtain a good living which they think it will bring them happiness in return. Lately, this phenomenon is clearly revealed through various works of literature and one of them is through a movie entitled “The Pursuit of Happyness”. Movie is part of literary works as it is performed based on the novel, old prose, play or drama. The purpose of this research is to investigate the intrinsic and moral values contained in the movie and gain the beneficial inputs of investigating them from the movie. In this research, the writer uses the descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected by reading all texts of the script and watching the movie intensively based on the intrinsic values (Abram’s theory) and moral values (Hornby’s theory). The results of this research can be found that the intrinsic values revealed in this movie were character and characterization divided into major character by Chris Gardner, Christopher, Linda and minor character by Jay Twistle, Alan, Martin, and Robbin, the setting was taken in San Francisco in 1981, the plot was divided into exposition, conflict, climax, and resolution, the point of view used the first person point of view, the theme was about struggle, and the language style was simple and clear. The moral values found in the movie were love, friendliness, sincerity, bravery, responsibility, care, diligence, honesty, and thankfulness. |
