| Abstract: | This research discusses the implementation of teaching writing descriptive text using CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning assisted by WhatsApp to the grade seventh students of SMPN SATAP RIMBAKARYA in the academic year of 2020/2021. The background of this research is focused on the implementation of teaching writing descriptive text when pandemic COVID 19, the teacher and students’ difficulties, and the suggestion from the teacher and students regarding online learning. Descriptive qualitative was used in this research. The subjects of this study are teacher and students (consists of 20 students). The data were obtained through document analysis, questionnaire, and interview. The results found that online learning is not effective because there are weaknesses such as: understanding the students of material being taught, and online learning make the students lack willingness to learn. Meanwhile based on quesionnaire of students almost 30% students vote that online learning is difficult, but WhatsApp gave them a positive motivation in learning process. The teacher also gave positive responses in the implementation of model CTL in online teaching writing descriptive text assisted by WhatsApp application |
