Abstract
This study aims to determine the process of developing narrative text teaching materials with animated videos on narrative text reading skills, the feasibility of teaching materials on narrative text reading skills based on expert and practitioner validation, teacher and student responses to teaching material products with animated videos on narrative text reading skills, and researcher constraints during product development. This study uses the research and development (R&D) method. The subjects of this study were 20 grade IX junior high school students. The instruments
used in this study were observation, questionnaires, and documentation. This study revealed four findings. First, the process of developing teaching materials with animated videos was carried out by creating narrative text materials, creating animated videos, and completing the product by following the five design steps of Dick and Carey. Second, the feasibility of the product by validator I obtained a
percentage 78% and validator II obtained a percentage of 78%. These results indicate that teaching materials with animated videos are included in the “agree” category.
Third, the teacher's response to the field test obtained 97%. The student response in the field test obtained a percentage of 95%. The teacher and student responses were considered “strongly agree” in the response category based on the data obtained. Fourth, two obstacles were encountered during the research and development process of teaching materials, namely finding appropriate voice actors and the diverse characters of each student. Thus, teaching materials with animated videos on narrative texts help students with reading skills and make students able to help in teaching and arouse student interest.
