| Abstract: | Reading is considered to be very important and useful as people can gain much information and knowledge by reading. Thus, in order to be able to comprehend the reading, it requires a good comprehension ability which is very much influenced by the extent of vocabulary as it is a factor that influences people to understand the content of reading. The purpose of this research is to determine the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their English text reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI Ganjar Sabar Nagreg. It is a quantitative study by using correlation analysis. The population used in this research is the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI Ganjar Sabar Nagreg and the sample used is 35 students drawn by using Proportional Stratified Random Sampling. Data collection technique used in this research is by using the test and the data analysis technique used is the Pearson product moment correlation coefficient. The degree of correlation between the two variables was very strong with a correlation coefficient of 0.809. The correlation was positive and significant as r > r-table which was 0.809 > 0.3338. The results showed that there was a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI Ganjar Sabar Nagreg. |
